Open-access From Secondary to Higher Education: factors and good practices

Abstract

The transition from high school to college is a crucial moment in the lives of students, since it implies a significant change in their habits, expectations and responsibilities, so this theoretical review essay aims to analyze the existing literature on good practices that favor the transition from high school to college, with emphasis on the factors that influence this process. The literature consulted agrees that evaluation methods, social support, self-regulation capacity and socioeconomic level are conditions that influence the adaptation process. As an opportunity, the need to promote good orientation practices is highlighted, especially during the first year. Some of these are oriented to cooperation, accompaniment and self-knowledge, in order to develop the necessary confidence for this stage to be positive and thus prevent academic dropout.
