Open-access Neuropsychological level and ability to write research objectives: pilot study

Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between the neuropsychological level and the ability to write research objectives by the participants of the Psychology master's degrees during the third quarter of 2021. The methodology involves a pilot study, with a quantitative focus, design non-experimental, cross-sectional, and exploratory in scope. To collect data, a research problem was written for which they had to write the objectives, which were evaluated through a rubric. Additionally, the Luria-DNA was applied to each participant. The main results indicate that the Total Score of the Neuropsychological Profile and the Thematic Drawings and Texts scale correspond to the lowest scores in this sample of participants, the highest scores correspond to the Expressive Speech and Conceptual and Discursive Activity scales. The average of the rubric scores corresponds to 20 points. The direct scoring of the rubric only finds a high direct correlation with a large effect with respect to Thematic Drawings and Texts of the Intellectual Area, Conceptual and Discursive Activity of the Intellectual Area, and Logical Memorization of the Memory Area, being the scale of Thematic Drawings and Texts of the Intellectual Area which obtains a score p less than 0.05. The main conclusion indicates that the ability to write research objectives is more directly related to intellectual processes mediated by higher cortical functions than to other neurocognitive functions.
