Open-access Study techniques used by undergraduate education students

Study techniques are becoming increasingly challenging due to competencies and skills students must acquire and develop. In this context, the present study analyzes the study techniques reported by undergraduate students in Education at a university in the southern region of the Dominican Republic. The methodology adopted a quantitative approach with a descriptive design. The study sample was composed of 81 students from the Basic Education bachelor’s program, who completed an online questionnaire comprising 34 polytomous items organized into three variables. The instrument, validated by expert judgment, reached a reliability level of 0.892 according to Cronbach’s Alpha scale. The results indicate that students predominantly utilize techniques for information retention and storage, as well as strategies for organizing time dedicated to examinations and presentations. However, findings reveal a preference for receptive and organizational strategies rather than active techniques aimed at deeper information processing. The study concludes that it is necessary to foster active participation, critical thinking, and dialogic inquiry within educational processes to facilitate deeper comprehension.
