Open-access Transmedia Reading with Leaders of the cerros del Almendral in Valparaíso

Abstract

The objective of this article is to describe an experience of co-creation of biographical narratives through transmedia communication to move from private and intimate space to public and common conversation. As part of the Connection with the Environment (VcM) plan of the Master in Digital Communication and Transmedia (MCDyT), the collective reading of Imaginarios de mujeres latinoamericanas was carried out with a group of neighborhood leaders from the hills of the Almendral neighborhood of Valparaíso. The design considered four key stages: (1) symmetrical experience in the staging for presentation on the publication’s web support; (2) reading aloud by the attendees of biographical stories of said text, intertwining different voices; (3) conversation guided by common stories of the attendees; and (4) the construction of new narratives from the biographical experience through the metaphor of the tree of life, which allows categorizing feelings, experiences and life goals, in a friendly and non-invasive way. The results of the activity allow us to infer that biographical reading and writing, through a transmedia design, establishes links in the territory through the recognition of otherness and the participants’ own emotions; Likewise, academic dissemination with community organizations is necessary and significant for the achievement of bidirectional learning.
